S. H. Raza
orn in Madhya Pradesh, Raza studied in India and Paris and co-founded the Bombay Progressive Artists’ Group. He eventually became famous for his abstract “Bindu” (dot) paintings symbolizing cosmic unity.
He merged Cubist forms and strong Fauvist color with deep spiritual symbolism rooted in Indian landscapes.
Awarded Padma Shri '81, Bhushan '07, Vibhushan '13, and France’s Legion d’Honneur.
